NATIONAL SOLAR SCHOOLS PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Overview

  • The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) is a Federal Government initiative which aims to help Australian schools take practical action to tackle climate change.
  • Schools can receive up to $50,000 when installing a solar system larger than 2kw
  • Up to $30,000 for systems less than 2kw.
  • Funding can be spread across several eligible products.

Funding Amounts

  • Program total - $25.042 million
  • WA's portion: $4.264 million ($3.8 million for government schools and $0.45 million for non government schools).

Application Process

  • Schools need to first register online at the NSSP website.
    • This has to be done by an employee of the school.
    • You will receive an acknowledgement email with a project ID which is needed for the application.
  • Applications are also completed on the website once the school has all the relevant information.
    • Must have itemised quote/quotes of all products.
    • An authorised persons details – someone who can sign a funding agreement on behalf of a school.
    • A signed declaration that to the best of their knowledge the school won't be closing in the next 12 months.
    • Details of any financial contribution from the school.
    • A project description outlining the educational benefits of the project.

Assessment Criteria

    • Value for money
      • Schools need to show they are receiving value for money and therefore are encouraged to obtain multiple quotes.
    • Environmental Benefit
      • Assessed on the expected benefit of the items they are requesting funding for.
    • Educational Benefit
      • Schools need to show a link between the products purchased and the proposed educational benefit from them.
    • School that can show details of satisfying the three criteria will be well placed to receive the funding

System Requirements

    • Panels must have a 10 year product warranty
    • The system must be installed by a CEC accredited installer/designer.
    • Performance statement outlining the expected performance of the system.
    • A monitoring system must be supplied as part of the solar package.   There must be a visual displaying showing the relevant details of the systems performance.
