Although electricity supply charges on the most common A1 Tariff has not increased, the daily supply charge has. This 51% jump will see electricity users pay an extra $169 per year. While installing solar won’t protect you from the extra $169 in connection fees you’ll have to pay, installing solar can dramatically reduce and sometimes even eliminate your day time energy bill, easily covering these extra costs.

Homeowners on the Smart Home Plan can expect the same increase in supply charges, and an additional 2% increase on their electricity charges.  Those on Home Bushiness Plan are facing a 10% increase across both supply and electricity charges.

Sustainable energy sources like wind and solar power don’t just protect you from these increase, but also greatly decrease your reliance on grid electricity, displacing a large portion of the amount of electricity you’d need to buy from the grid.

Solar returns from a financial perspective are very strong in Western Australia. If you were able to use 70% of your generated energy and export 30%, you would displace 9.24 units of energy you would normally buy from the grid. Multiply this by the amount you’d pay for this electricity from the grid and you’re looking at savings over $140 dollars per bill cycle.

Businesses on the Synergy Large Business Demand LV Tariff and Synergy Large Business Demand HV Tariff Plan (L1) are this year's winners, paying the same electricity rates as last year.

In contrast, facing increases of 10% across the board, organisations on the Charity Accommodation Plan (D1), Business Time of Use (R1), or Business Plan (L1) Tariffs can expect to be hit by a substantial increase in their annual electricity fees.

These business owners have two options when deciding how to combat Synergy electricity price increases: generating their own source of energy and/or choosing a different electricity provider.

1) Installing your own source of energy generation

A 100kW commercial solar PV system has an expected energy output of 161,700kWh per year. If a business on the Synergy Business Time of Use (R1) Tariff was able to use 70% of their solar generated energy, over 110,000kWh would be displaced from what was previously bought from the grid. Multiply this by the electricity charge of 34 cents per unit, and you’re looking at an annual saving of around $39,700.

This results in a fantastic return for investing in solar.

2) Choosing a different electricity provider.

Infinite Energy can offer commercial electricity customers in Perth and the South West of WA a real alternative for their electricity supply.

Choosing Infinite Energy will mean:

  • Lower electricity tariffs
  • Energy monitoring and visualisation
  • Increased energy efficiency
  • Renewable energy options

Infinite Energy provides this choice via Western Power’s network, the same physical supply your business uses now. This means no interruption on switching in addition to no setup, transfer, or switching fees.

Infinite Energy looks at every client and their electricity consumption profile individually. With your permission, we can remotely extract the electricity consumption data from your on-site electricity meter. Then, using sophisticated software we are able to analyse the data and determine if we can offer you a cheaper tariff.

By switching to Infinite Energy as their electricity provider, Perth foundry Dobbie were able to save over $55,400 in annual electricity bills.

Unfortunately, Synergy electricity price increases are impossible to avoid. Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can combat rising bills, including investing in a renewable energy source like solar, or if you’re a business, choose a different electricity provider to secure a lower tariff.
