Following the success of their first-generation Powerwall, Tesla Energy has unveiled the eagerly awaited Powerwall 2, which will be ready for installations in February 2017.
Like the first generation Powerwall, Powerwall 2 is designed to store any excess solar energy your PV system produces. This allows owners to power their home or business with free solar energy during the evening.
Powerwall 2 also requires no maintenance and comes with a 10-year warantee.
Similar to its predecessor, Powerwall 2 will also be able to be used for:
Compared to its predecessor, Powerwall 2 offers double the energy at 14kWh, and comes with an in-built inverter. This allows Powerwall 2 to convert DC power to AC power internally, getting rid of the need for an extra hybrid inverter. This will result in lower installation costs and a much easier installation process.
Powerwall 2 also comes with a cheaper price tag per kWh (the price is estimated at $9,450 plus GST in Australia, including installation), significantly reducing the previous payback periods.
