Local & State Government Solar PPAs Across Australia

Local & State Government Solar PPAs Across Australia

Investing in a commercial solar power system can significantly reduce electricity costs from day one, cut business risk moving forward, and improve your sustainability rating.

However, the upfront financial outlay for a solar PV system is often a barrier to many government buildings getting approval to invest. To help make solar more accessible to all government organisations, Infinite Energy offers a range of financing solutions including solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

With our leading product offering, excellence in project management and extensive experience supplying over 10,000 homes, businesses and government facilities with solar power since 2009, Infinite Energy is equipped to provide Solar PPAs to a wide variety of government properties throughout Australia.

Reflecting our expertise in providing Solar PPAs for government organisations, Infinite Energy have been selected by the New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and Local Government NSW (LGNSW) to join a small panel of pre-qualified solar photovoltaic (PV) providers to deliver solar PPAs across a variety of government buildings within New South Wales – find out more here.

What is a PPA?

A Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) relieves the need for your organisation to provide any upfront capital in accessing the benefits of solar power. With an Infinite Energy Government Solar PPA, we take on full ownership and maintenance of the solar system on your roof (or ground mounted or solar car park).

You only purchase the electricity generated by the solar system at a rate that is often much cheaper than your current daytime energy rate.

When you also sign up with Infinite Energy for grid supplied electricity as well as a solar PPA, you will receive a single monthly bill for all your electricity.

The Key Benefits of Solar PPAs:

No Upfront Capital Costs

A Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) relieves the need for local and state government facilities to provide any upfront capital to access the benefits of solar power. With a Solar PPA, Infinite Energy will take on full ownership and maintenance of the solar system for the length of the PPA.

No Technology, Service or Operational risks

Infinite Energy will take care of all the operations and maintenance in relation to the solar system, meaning there are no fees associated with any maintenance or potential faults that may occur.

Electricity Price Certainty

A Solar PPA will give state and local government agencies certainty in relation to the price of electricity generated from the solar system for the life of the agreement.

Building Improvement and Green Ratings

A commercial scale solar power system can add significant value to government buildings. It can also greatly assist in achieving improved GreenStar and NABERS ratings.

Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Electricity generated under a Solar PPA is generated on-site and has no carbon emissions.

Other Benefits of Solar

There are other benefits of installing a commercial solar:

  • Roof shading
  • Reduced peak demand changes which can lead to lower electricity tariffs
  • Green benefits for your government agency

How does a Government Solar PPA work?

Infinite Energy will perform a detailed assessment of the government site that looks at the electricity consumption profile, available suitable roof space (or ground mounted or solar car park) and internal electrical infrastructure. We then provide a recommendation for the type of solar power system that would be suitable for your needs and pricing options per a PPA agreement.

If you choose to select Infinite Energy as your preferred provider, we will project manage installation of the solar system to ensure the process for the organisation is as simple as possible. Once installed, commissioned and producing electricity, the government agency is sent a monthly account for the electricity produced by the system and can watch the systems performance with our monitoring tools.

Solar Power Purchase Agreement Checklist

There are number of items to check with a Solar PPA provider before signing up:

  • Are they licensed to sell electricity in your state?

Providers require an “Individual Retail Exemption” from the Australian Energy Regulator in VIC, NSW and the ACT, and an Electricity Retailer’s License or a Solar PPA Retail License Exemption in Western Australia if the solar system is connected to the grid.

  • Do they have significant experience in Commercial and Government Solar?
  • Are they able to provide detailed information on the effect on your current Electricity Tariff by installing Solar?
  • Are they both ISO 9001 Compliant and a CEC Approved Solar Retailer?
  • Are they trusted and pre-qualified by other government bodies?
  • Are they financially sound to be able to manage and maintain the solar system for the term of the PPA?
