Infinite Energy is Officially Carbon Neutral

In January 2017, Infinite Energy became completely carbon neutral.

With a commitment to deliver cleaner and more affordable energy to all Australians, Infinite Energy aim to do everything we can as an organisation to reduce our own emissions, including generating the majority of our power via solar, having multiple Electric Vehicles in our fleet, and now fully offsetting all unavoidable emissions.

Infinite Energy has become certified by the WA organisation, Carbon Neutral, who use The Gold Standard for carbon offsets. A non-profit foundation under Swiss Law, The Gold Standard is widely considered to be the highest standard in the world for carbon offsets, and have dedicated themselves to implementing the Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement.

What does it mean to be Carbon Neutral?

By becoming Carbon Neutral, Infinite Energy has fully offset all CO2e- emissions associated with our energy usage, including transportation (cars and air travel), electricity not covered by solar, and water usage.

We’ve chosen to neutralise our carbon footprint by investing in two exciting offset projects, the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, which is Australia’s largest biodiverse reforestation carbon sink project, and avoided rainforest deforestation in Brazil.

Nature Bank - Help Your Business and Help the Environment

In partnership with Carbon Neutral, Infinite Energy has also launched Nature Bank, an initiative which enables businesses to offset the carbon emissions associated with their electricity supply in a simple, easy and cost effective way.

Through Nature Bank, our electricity customers can offset these emissions through their monthly electricity bill; we simply add a small fee per kWh (or unit of electricity).

What Projects does Nature Bank Support?

Like Infinite Energy, we’ll be investing our client’s carbon offsets in a number of programs including the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor reforestation program in WA, and avoided rainforest deforestation projects in Brazil.

The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity

Located in WA’s northern agriculture region, the Yarra Yarra Corridor is just 400km north of Perth. Once home to rich and diverse ancient landscapes, 90% of the region was cleared for agriculture purpose from the early 1900s onwards.

This process removed so much native habitat that many plant and animal species went extinct locally or regionally. Some were able to survive in remnant woodland and shrubland, which Carbon Neutral aims to reconnect by planting trees, shrubs and ground cover at selected key sites.

As well as enhancing biodiversity and sequestering greenhouse gas emissions, trees planted by Carbon Neutral contribute towards reducing soil salinity, saves and restores water quality, cuts soil and water erosion and provides windbreaks.

Work has contributed to the return of numerous threatened and endangered species, including:
- Major Mitchell’s cockatoo
- Karara Tecticornia Bulbosa
- Golden Wattle
- Malleefowl
- Thorny Devil
