We Asked Australian Businesses About the Future of Renewables. Here’s What We Discovered

At Infinite Energy, we are a strong supporter of renewable energy use for Australian businesses. We want to learn how we can help everyone benefit from investing in renewable energy.

Earlier this year, we asked Australian businesses to tell us about their energy preferences, and in particular, their thoughts around renewable energy usage.

We had a fantastic response to our request and had business representatives from all over Australia contribute to our research. Their responses helped us to create The Future of Energy for Australian Business Report.

The purpose of this report is to help Australian businesses understand how they compare to others within their industry and within the Australian business landscape.

We had some very interesting data come out of our research, read on to learn more.

Unsurprisingly, solar power is by far the most popular renewable choice for Australian businesses, with a total of 80% of those surveyed saying that they had already invested in or were planning to invest in solar power.

Given the impact of COVID, it’s also unsurprising that saving money on energy costs was the most popular reason for investing in solar power, with almost 90% of our survey respondents agreeing with this reason. Businesses also desired to reduce their impact on the environment and improve their green corporate image.

More than half of those we surveyed said cost was the main factor holding them back from investing in renewable technologies like solar power, battery storage and carbon offsetting.  A clear return on investment proposition comes in at a close second.

One particularly interesting point was that although almost all of those surveyed thought that a green or environmentally-friendly reputation was important for their business, a quarter of respondents thought that their clients considered their use of renewable energy either not important or only slightly important, showing a disconnect between these two factors.
