About the AWTA

The largest wool testing organisation in the world, the AWTA is comprised of three divisions, AWTA Raw Wool, AWTA Product Testing and Agrifood Technology.

Established in 1957, the AWTA aims to promote the sale of Australian wool, while at the same time providing an accurate and impartial testing service based upon internationally recognised testing standards.

In 2013, AWTA first decided to invest in solar in order to fix their increasing electricity costs and secure a more sustainable future.

AWTA 350kW Solar PV System

Acting solely on the financials of a traditional capital purchase, the 150kW system AWTA installed in 2013 was the largest rooftop solar PV system on the Western Power network at the time of installation.

The original 150kW system is comprised of:
600 x Conergy Power Plus 240W Panels
9 x Sunny TriPower SMA inverters
1 x SMA Webbox Monitoring

Due to the incredible savings their first system delivered, in July 2017 AWTA contracted Infinite Energy to install a new 200kW SunPower solar PV system, bringing their total capacity to 350kW.

AWTA 350kW Solar

The new 200kW system is comprised of:
460 x 435W SunPower Panels
8 x SMA Sunny TriPower inverters

Combined, the AWTA’s 350kW solar PV system will generate 560,000kWh or 560MWh of clean electricity per year, meaning that 32% of AWTA’s annual usage demand is met by solar. Of the 560MWh produced annually, 81% is consumed on-site, meaning just 19% is exported to the grid.

Thanks to such a high utilisation rate, AWTA’s 350kW solar PV system will generate annual electricity savings of $169,000, and will pay for itself in just 5.2 years.

1GWh of Solar Production

On December 8 2017, AWTA reached 1GWh of solar production since their 150kW solar PV system was first installed in 2013.

A huge milestone for AWTA, 1GWh worth of electricity is enough to power:
172 average Australian homes for a year*.
1,389 trips across Australia in an electric car**.
Every home in Perth for 4 days***.

The fact that the 1GWh worth of electricity was generated via clean, renewable energy, means that AWTA avoided 700 tonnes worth of emissions, the equivalent of saving 2,500 trees.

Infinite Energy is proud to have partnered with AWTA through every step of their solar journey, and look forward to helping the AWTA become even more renewable in the future.
