About Broadway Fair

Established in 1972, Broadway Fair is a popular shopping and dining destination located in Nedlands, WA.

The centre, which is popular with both locals and UWA students, is home to over 60 retailers, food outlets and professional service businesses.

In 2015, Broadway invested in solar to fix their increasing electricity costs and secure a more sustainable future.

Broadway Fair 312kW Solar PV System

Sun Edison Australia worked with the centre management to design a 312kW solar PV system to help offset the centre’s annual electricity demand, whilst providing an additional revenue stream.

Sun Edison Australia contracted Infinite Energy to manage the entire project execution. This included the design, engineering, Western Power application process, installation, testing and commissioning of the system.

As the roof at the shopping centre was in need of substantial repairs, Broadway Fair management decided to re-roof the entire complex prior to installing the solar PV system. Ordinarily, the centre management may have been forced to increase tenants rent to cover the costs of such significant upgrades. However, in this case, the costs of the upgrades will be funded by the savings generated by the solar system.

The 312kW system is comprised of:

  • 948 x 330W SunEdison Panels
  • 3 x Fronius Agilo Inverters
  • Integrated Fronius Remote Monitoring Solution

Combined, the Broadway Fair’s 312kW solar PV system will generate 540,000kWh or 540MWh of clean electricity per year, meaning that 30% of Broadway Fair’s annual usage demand is met by solar.

1GWh of Solar Production

On January 31 2018, Broadway Fair reached 1GWh of solar production since their 312kW solar PV system was first installed in December 2015.

A significant milestone for Broadway Fair, 1GWh worth of electricity is enough to power:

  • 172 average Australian homes for a year*.
  • 1,389 trips across Australia in an electric car**.
  • Every home in Perth for 4 days***.

Because the 1GWh worth of electricity was generated via clean, renewable energy, Broadway Fair avoided 700 tonnes worth of emissions, the equivalent of saving 2,500 trees.

Infinite Energy is proud to have helped Broadway Fair make the transition to solar and is excited to celebrate this shared milestone.

* Based on the average Australian home usage of 5,817kWh per year.

** Based on the average EV car using 18kWh per 100km.

*** Based on the average home consuming 16kWh a day.
