SunPower & Fronius Home Solar Battery System: A Case Study

In July 2016, Infinite Energy installed a 7.8kW Home Solar Battery System for Luke, a resident based in Mosman Park, becoming one of only a handful of homeowners in WA to install a Fronius Battery at his property.

For his system, Luke selected 24 x SunPower 327W Panels and a Fronius Symo 5kW Inverter. Luke cites increasing electricity bills as his main motivation to install a solar power battery system, in addition to helping the local environment, “I really disliked my power bills and hated having to watch what I had on all the time. Saving the planet was also a big plus. Whether I believe in global warming or not, the air I breathe will be that little bit better if I harvest the sun for my power, rather than use gas, diesel or coal-fired power stations.”

Thanks to recent advances in solar technology, increasingly efficient and affordable batteries have become available for residential use. For homeowners like Luke, batteries go a long way toward helping achieve his goal of 100% grid independence, “Clearly the sun doesn’t shine 24 hours a day, so it was obvious that I needed a solution to run my house at night. I hated the fact that my feed into the grid was just 7 cents, so harvesting that power into a storage device was a pleasing outcome.”

Luke selected the 12kWh Fronius Battery for his home, due to its large storage capacity and number of guaranteed cycles (8,000), “I compared the Fronius Battery with alternatives and none came close to providing me with the 12kWh storage capacity at a reasonable cost. The way the battery charges, its ability to draw at a higher current, overall capacity, warranty and guaranteed cycles satisfied me that Fronius was by far the only choice.”

Luke selected Infinite Energy after rigorous research into local solar providers, “When I decided to invest in solar I searched the net looking for the best possible system in terms of efficiency, quality and longevity. I sifted through all the pretenders and kept coming back to Infinite Energy. Product research proved that most of the competition didn’t know their stuff and there was far too much hyperbole.

“It all came down to a balance of price, quality, and whether I could trust the company to provide the best gear, install it in the right way first time, and that they’ll be around in the years to come for any upgrades or maintenance. In the end, the choice was a no-brainer.”

From his initial enquiry right through to installation, Luke confirmed the experience with Infinite Energy to be overwhelmingly positive, “Without question, the experience has been amazing. I put my Energy Consultant, Louis, through a bit of a grilling with many permutations, but he kept coming back with answers to my questions and then taking it to the next level to come up with an even better outcome. His interest in finding the best solution in a reasonably cost effective way gave me the confidence that I had the right person and company.”

Luke hopes to see reduced electricity thanks to his new solar system and Fronius battery, in addition to a positive environmental impact, “Knowing power costs will continue to rise over the coming years, getting in now seemed like the right thing to do. At worst, I’ll break even in ten years, but the real upside is I’ll be stinking up the planet a lot less.”
